Is the Media affecting you Too much?

Let's be honest, we're all affected by the media in some way. People who say they aren't can't admit it.
And today I'm not talking about looks, but I'm talking about behaviour.

Let's take a teen drama series, like Gossip Girl. Girls from all around the world love watching Serena and Blair sport the cutest, most expensive outifts and hook up with great looking guys. And by 'hook up', I don't mean just hanging out - I mean straight on sex.

Characters on teen drama are sexually active - as teens themselves. Sleep with ya best friend (to try it), then sleep with ya BFF's boy (to stir up drama), then sleep with your boyfriend of 1 week, and last but not least, have a threesome to staple it up.
Gosh. You may say 'well that's reliaty, darling'. Yeah, it's reality because people keep showing these kind of scenes. TV, music and media in general have such a massive effect on us... I can't even imagine!

Now, let's get to you. If you think having sex at your age (teen) is OK, doing weed is in the weekly partly package, not drinking at your age is insane, running around in a bikini is a daily thing, having a threesome is on your bucket list and if you're listening to 'Not a Girl, Not yet a Woman' and nodding etc., you're affected by the media in a negative way - big time. (At 16, you're still a girl, period. I should know).

Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE a bit of GG, but its viewer must be responsible enough not to copy everything what they see on the screen. So if you think you can't handle seeing sex everywhere without being tempted, don't watch it.

ADVICE: I know peer pressure comes to this too. But next time you see something 'badass' (and illegal) on TV, think twice before tying acting and reality together. Try to find friend who understand this too. Trust me, there are ways to have fun without damaging your body, mind and future. Like Tyra Banks, try going to movies, ice cream and parks for starters - then discover more, and in the end, it won't matter where you are with your friends - just hanging out with each others' company will be enough.

Kisses x

RED NOSE DAY 2013! Yay!

Do something funny for money - did you? If not, there's still time.

1. Support by watching: just watching the live Comic Relief show will help, at least you'll show support by increasing viewing numbers, and who know,s you might be touched!

2. Order 1D single: I know you may not like them, but come on, this is for charity!

3. Buy TK Maxx top online: You can easily do this from the website!
4. Send a text: Just donate by calling or texting right now! Find the info on the webbie
5. Donate on the website: So simple!

A £5 vaccine saves a life! Just a few pennies can contribute to a lot.
Just donate as much as you would for a skirt in Topshop - and don't buy one this month! If you can only afford a little bit, give only a little bit! Who cares, as long as something is given, it shows you care - and helps too!
Fundraising aim: Jessie also posted a picture encouraging people to text £5 to raise money for Comic Relief
Jessie J looks like a beautiful diva as a baldie! I think the no hair look is going to be big in 2013. Just look how good this is!

So you wanna host a Patry?

Rules of being a party host:
1) The number one, most important rule of any house party is....
DON'T BE THE HOST.

But since some of you mofos like to feel good by being rule breakers, here are some tips on how to try and keep your house looking OK-ish after throwing a house 'gathering'.

2) Make a Guest List
Make sure you have a guest list. If you don't want people to get hurt, just say that everyone in your year/ class/ friend group is invited. You can make a private event on Facebook, adding all these people and telling them the info. Why? Having loads of random people can get you into trouble. Who knows what kind of weirdos can enter your house, and if anything gets damaged, you won't be close to knowing who done it. It is suitable to lock the door after each guest comes so you don't get the oddball breaking in and crashing the party.

3) Create a Party Room
Decide where exactly the party people can step their feet. Lock rooms that are out of bounds (eg like your parents' room, your room, room with valuables...). This is a no-brainer. Unless you want them kids puking on your duvet (and there WILL probably be puking), keep them out!

4) Hide Valuable stuff
Hide all your breakable/ valuable/ favourite stuff, so it doesn't get broken or stolen. This includes your parents' stuff, keys, laptop... and you can figure out everything else.

5) Dry Food only
Sure creamy profiteroles and cheesy nachos can look good, but... Don't buy messy food! There's plenty of snacks out there that can do just fine. Crisps, gummy bears and mini sausages tend to be favourites. You can even buy mini sandwiches for the 'bigger' food.

6) Space for Dance floor
Move tables and chairs out of the way. More space for dancing, less chance of people tripping and messing up the couch. Win-win!

7) Ask guests to clean
I know, you don't want to be the party pooper, but when peeps are going home, ask each to throw a can/ food wrapping into a garbage bag you'll be holding at the door. No can = no can do, buddy, you're staying until I have that trash (that made no sense at all, just ignore).

8) Keep your eyes open!!!
Do you know all these people very well? Make sure to see if some bitch isn't sneaking a video game controller into his pocket, or over there, someone might be having a wazz in the kitchen. It happens!

STORY TIME
Okay, this is why I'm advising you to do all these things.
I know a guy in my school, let's say his name is Maurice. He is Scottish. Maurice's parents decides to leave for a week. This little dude told his close friend that he might be throwing a party: 'But don't tell anyone yet'. Of course she told.
About 50 people came, most of them were from school. This is what happened: Firstly, his video controller got stoles, as did his keys and other valuable objects. Someone pooped and puked in the kitchen floor (there's a lovely photo of it on Facebook). Then came the best part - people started randomly throwing things into his garden pond. You know, the odd phone, shoes, VACUUM CLEANER! And last (but probably not), a boy who's always angry punched the wall (because he's so angry), then someone punched it again to make the whole bigger.
Maurice now attends anger counselling (who knows why), and his family had to replace the lock. Damages cost about £1000 altogether. Poor Maurice :(

Dear It Girl, What would be suitable for my Art Project?

Q: Attempting to get top marks in my Fine Art AS course, I'm in a need for a creative and meaningful project theme. The theme is called 'Covert and Obscure', and is revolving around anything secretive, hidden or covered. My idea is to do fairytales, but how can I convert this into something more do-able and add an original twist?

PictureA: I get you, it seems kind of pointless to paint your best friend dressed up as Cinderella. You need something more meaningful, like you stated.
I have a few ideas for you. Start thinking - do you want to concentrate on something visual or thoughtful? If visual, try focusing on landscapes rather than people in princess costumes. You can exaggerate on colour of nature, or twist up the sky using Photoshop to create a whimsical day.
Another idea is to step away from the fairytales and research an emotion artist. You can then use your own interpretation to paint people showing their emotion, which has you guessing their story and background. So you still kind of stay in the story telling theme.
You can also write on peoples' faces - maybe a few sentences you find interesting, like some quotes or lyrics. This is covert as it covers the face, but is telling a certain story. The painting can be interpreted in so many ways!
Good luck with your art! Don't leave everything to the last minute!
